Our Mission
The Young-Sanders Center is committed to a historically accurate examination of Louisiana
history and culture from the colonial period through the twentieth century. The Center serves
as an archival depository and research facility designed to advance understanding of Louisiana’s
past through primary source research. The holdings of the Center emphasize the antebellum
period, War Between the States, Reconstruction, and Louisiana’s political history. Programs
sponsored by the Young-Sanders Center include lecture series, Research Scholar grants, and
graduate student stipends all designed to facilitate awareness and interpretation of Louisiana’s
unique and complicated history.
